Jan Sumerel and Matt Rohr

Jan Sumerel received her Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in Biochemistry and Biophysics.  She did her postdoctoral work at the University of California at Santa Barbara in Materials Science.  She has worked on functional 2D and 3D printing her entire career.  She has had positions at BioSource, FUJIFILM Dimatix, Rambus, MakerBot and is presently at BASF.  She is the Senior Manager in Applications and Technology for 3D Printing for North America.

About Matt Rohr: Growing up I learned that technology development can be disruptive and misunderstood, I was busted drawing robots during class. Luckily my passion for design persisted and I continued to grow my skills, specifically in the areas of CAD and 3D printing. I am a Certified SOLIDWORKS Expert with a wide-ranging experience as a product designer, CAD manager, and training specialist. I currently work in Brooklyn as the Design and Drafting Manager at MakerBot. I am also a founding partner of the SOLIDWORKS User Group of New York City, a not-for-profit organization that promotes knowledge exchange and professional networking. Outside of the office my interests include backpacking, beer brewing, and drawing robots.

September 29 - Day 3: Ranging 3D Printed Parts through CAD

The final day of this three-day course will offer descriptions of how these CAD tools have worked in additive manufacturing to produce 3D parts for a variety of industries. These case studies will show samples reaching from medical, to wearables, to aerospace, and more.

September 28 - Day 2: Design Decisions: CAD and Models

On this second day of our three-day course, we will describe what tools are available in additive manufacturing and how their use has revolutionized design for manufacturing methods. Topics to be covered with examples include CAD (computer-aided design), solid models, and mesh models.
